III. 구원 – 예수 그리스도안에 있는 하나님의 의 (3:21-11:36): 전가 (3:21-5:11), 전달 (5:12-8:39), 정당해 지다 (9:1-11:36)
1. 믿음으로 전가된 하나님의 의: 의의 전가 (3:21-5:11) – 4부 (5:1-11)
가. 로마서 5장 1-11절에서 “믿음으로 전가된 하나님의 의”를 설명하는 마지막 부분으로, 사도바울은 로마교회의 그리스도들에게 하나님께서 “의롭다고 우리를 간주해 주심”이 가져 오는 복들을 (은택) 설명한다. 달리 말하면, 하나님의 은혜로 믿음으로 의롭게 된 죄인들에게 내리시는 하나님의 여러 가지 은택들을 설명하는 것이다.
나. 첫째, 마침내 우리 주님 예수 그리스도를 통하여, 아담 안에서 잃어 버렸던 하늘의 평화가 하나님과 의롭다고 간주 된 죄인들 사이에 다시 이루어 지게 되었다.
다. 둘째, 이제는 죄인들이 믿음으로만, 하나님의 은혜를 누리게 되었다. 따라서, 그 은혜 안에서 앞날에 다가 올 영원한 하나님의 영광을 자랑스럽게 소망하게 되었다.
라. 셋째, 우리가 환난들 가운데서 기뻐하게 되었다. 왜냐하면, 환난들을 통하여 우리의 영광스런 구원을 완성시키시는 하나님의 영광에로 우리가 나아 가게 되기 때문이다. 즉 환난 중에서도 우리가 앞날에 있을 하나님의 영광을 간절히 소망하게 되기 때문이다. 환난들 중에 우리가 인내를 배우고, 인내함으로써, 우리는 예수 그리스도의 성품 (인품, 인격)을 더욱 닮아 가게 되고, 우리가 예수 그리스도의 인격을 더욱 닮아 갈수록, 장차 영화롭게 바뀌게 될 우리, 즉 하나님의 영광에 대한 소망을 가지게 된다. 왜 이 모든 게 가능하냐 하면, 하나님의 사랑을 성령 하나님께서 우리 마음에 부어 주셔, 그 사랑이 우리로 하여금 환난들 가운데 기뻐하게 하시며, 우리가 마지막으로 영화롭게 바뀌게 될, 우리 구원의 마지막 완성을 우리에게 확신시켜 주시기 때문이다.
마. 마지막으로, 그리스도의 죽으심으로 인해, 성령님을 통해 죄인들이 마음에서 하나님의 사랑을 맛보게 되었다. 하나님께서는 자신의 원수들인 우리 죄인들에게, 자신의 사랑을 나타내셨다. 하나님의 사랑이 우리에게 두 가지 양상으로 오셨다: 첫째는, 하나님께서 자신의 원수들인 우리들을 그의 아들을 죽이심으로써, 자신과 화목케 하신 것이다. 우리는 이전에, 하나님의 원수들로서 아무 것도 할 수 없고 희망없이 살았으나 (에베소서 2:1,12), 정하신 때에 그리스도께서 불의한 우리를 위하여 돌아 가신 것이다. (다니엘 9:24-26) 따라서, 우리는 더 이상 하나님의 원수들이 아니다; 둘째로, 하나님께서는 자신의 아들을 부활시키심으로써, 우리 죄인들을 의롭다고 간주해 주시고, 앞으로 다가 올 하나님의 진노에서 우리를 건져 주신 것이다.
바. 한 마디로, 의롭다고 간주받은 우리 죄인들은 하나님 아들의 죽으심 덕분에, 하나님과 화목하게 되었고, 그 분의 부활 (생명) 덕분에, 장차 온전히 영원한 생명을 누리게 될 것이다.
주요 공부과제: 우리가 믿음으로, 의롭다고 간주 받은 후에, 어떤 경우에는, 하나님깨로 부터 받은 평화를 잃어 버릴 수가 있을까?

III. Salvation – The Righteousness of God in Jesus Christ (3:21-11:36): Imputed (3:21-5:11); Imparted (5:12-8:39); and Vindicated (9:1-11:36)
1. God’s Righteousness Is Through Faith: Imputation of God’s Righteousness (3:21-5:11) – Part 4 (5:1-11)
a. Now in Chapter 5: 1-11, as a concluding part of ”the imputation of God’s righteousness to the sinners” the Apostle Paul explains to the church members in Rome the blessings from the “imputation of God’s righteousness to them”. In other words, God brings manifold blessings to justified sinners through faith by His grace alone.
b. First of all, there is finally, through our Lord Jesus Christ a heavenly peace with God that once lost in Adam, and now has been restored to the justified sinners.
c. Secondly, now by faith the sinners have an access to God’s grace where they stand and boast in hope of God’s glory to eternity.
d. Thirdly, we rejoice and glory in our tribulations, because the tribulations will eventually lead us to a hope of the glory of God, our final consummation of glorious salvation. During our tribulations, we are being shaped to have a hope in God’s glory. The tribulations make us patient, our patience shapes our proven character after Jesus Christ, our proven Christ-like character brings us a hope that holds on to God’s glory (our glorification), because God pours out His love within our hearts through the Holy Spirit. God’s love makes us rejoice in our tribulations, and assures us of our final and complete consummation of salvation, our glorification.
e. Finally, the sinners tasted through the Holy Spirit God’s love in their hearts by the death of Christ. Indeed, God demonstrated His love toward us, His enemies. God’s demonstration of love comes to us in two ways: 1) He reconciled His enemies to Himself through the death of His Son. We were once enemies and helpless, but at the appointed time, Christ died for us, the unrighteous. (Daniel 9:24-26). We are no longer His enemies; 2) He shall deliver us, the justified sinners from His wrath by His Son’s resurrection (His life).
f. In one word, we, justified sinners will escape God’s wrath by having been reconciled to God through the death of His Son (Ephesians 2:1,12), and will live the eternal life through His resurrection (His life).
Study Question: After we were justified by faith, can we lose a peace from God under certain circumstances?
