(Q & A 109 deals with sins of adultery and fornication that always start in our hearts as Jesus our Lord stated, Matthew 5:28. And all of us have committed or will commit this Commandment at least in desire at a certain point in our life. God the Holy Spirit alone can make us pure and clean on this matter. Therefore, as our Lord Jesus has taught us how and what to pray, we must ask the Father in heaven not to lead us into temptation but deliver us from the Evil One, Matthew 6:13.
As a church, we are spiritually married to our head, Jesus Christ. Therefore, all sexual sins defile the Temples of the Holy Spirit who dwells in our bodies and spirits, 1 Corinthians 6:17 & 19. So in reality, sins of fornication and adultery break our spiritual marriage to the church’s husband, Jesus Christ.
We are assaulted within and outside our bodies. Our evil inclinations tempt us to transgress this Commandment, and our surroundings throw at us sexual temptations by all means. We are to be ever alert to this assault with fervent prayers to ask the Holy Spirit to aid us in fighting against this specific temptation all the time, Psalm 18:12-14; 51:10; 119:9-11.)
