IV. 봉사 – 예수 그리스도안에 있는 하나님의 의가 교회와 그 지체인 그리스도인의 삶에서 드러 나다 (12:1-16:2)
3. 그리스도께서 교회에 주신 최상의 영적 은사 – 사랑 (12:9-21)
제 3부 적극적으로 하나님의 초월적인 사랑을 실천하라! (12:17-21)
가. 자신의 교회를 향한 그리스도의 주신 성령의 은사에 대한 마지막 부분에서 우리가 봉착한 것이, 사람이라면 실천하기 가장 어렵고도 불가능한 명령이다. (12:17a) 사도는 “절대로”라는 부사를 여기서 쓰면서 우리가 이 명령을 수행하지 않을 수 없도록 못을 박는다.
나. 우리가 원수들을 대할 때, 우리에게 그들이 행하는 일들에 대해 반응하기 전에 반드시 철저하게 생각을 먼저 하라고 명하신다. 그렇지 않으면 우리를 격동시키는 원수들에게 육체의 욕심에 따라 우리가 반응을 보이게 되기 때문이다. (12:17b)
다. 우리가 우리의 모든 힘을 다해서원수와의 갈등을 해결하려 노력한 후에는 하나님 앞에서 우리의 모든 책임을 다한 것이다. 만약 원수가 이를 거절한다고 하더라도 더 이상 양심의 가책을 가질 필요가 없으며, 우리는 그들의 받을 벌에 대해 하나님 앞에 떳떳하다. (12:18)
라. 사도바울은 다시금 “절대로”라는 부사를 사용한다. 절대로 스스로 복수하지 말라! 복수를 하나님께 맡기라. 하나님의 신원은 우리가 흔히하는 죄에 물든 복수와는 아예 차원이 다르다. (12:19; 신명기 32:35)
마. 우리가 가진 복수심을 그리스도를 닮은 심령으로 바꾸라 명령하심으로써, 우리의 태도가 반드시 적극적이어야 함을 잘 드러낸다. (12:20; 잠언 25:21-22)
바. 결론적으로, 우리는 선으로 악을 이겨야만 한다. 이 것만이 확실하게 우리의 원수를 적극적이요, 효과적으로 대처하는 길이다. 이것이야말로, 십자가 위에서 돌아 가시면서 우리 주 예수님께서 가지신 행동이기도 하다. “아버지여 저들의 죄를 용서하소서, 저들이 모르고 그리하나이다!” (12:21; 누가복음 23:34) 우리가 이런 사랑을 가지고 있는가? 우리 스스로는 만들어 낼 수 없다. 위로 부터 우리에게 선물로 주신 성령의 은사로 우리는 이를 받았다. 이 은사를 위해 더욱 간구하고, 더욱 더 이를 실천하자.

3. The Best Spiritual Gift from Jesus to His Church – Love (12:9-21)
Part 3. Proactively Display Supernatural –Divine Love! (12:17-21)
a. In this final part of God’s spiritual gifts for His church, we are facing the most difficult and definitely impossible command, humanly speaking. (v.17a) The apostle uses the adverb, “Never” in this command. So we have no excuses for not following this order.
b. When we are facing our enemies, we MUST think thoroughly before we re-act or respond to their actions against us. Otherwise, we will react following our fleshly desire against our enemies’ provocations. (v.17b)
c. Once we have done our best to resolve a conflict within our power, we have fulfilled our responsibility before our God. If our enemies refuse to resolve the conflict, then we are not responsible for their blood. (v.18)
d. Once again, the apostle Paul uses the adverb, “Never”. Do not take our own vengeance. Leave it to God, leave Him room for His revenge. His vengeance is incomparable to our crooked one. (v.19; Deuteronomy 32:35)
e. Now we have a very powerful command to change our vengeful spirit to a truly Christ-like spirit. It is quite a pro-active attitude we must take. (v.20; Proverbs 25:21-22)
f. In conclusion, we must overcome evil with good. Definitely, it is our most positive and effective way of dealing our enemies. That’s what exactly our dying Lord Jesus did on the cross for His enemies, “Father forgive them! For they do not know what they are doing.” (v.21; Luke 23:34) Do we have such a love? We do not generate it, but it came down from above as a spiritual gift. Let’s pray for it and exercise it all the more.
