III. 구원 – 예수 그리스도안에 있는 하나님의 의 (3:21-11:36): 전가 (3:21-5:11), 실천적 적용 (5:12-8:39), 정당해 지다 (9:1-11:36)
2. 믿음으로 전가된 하나님의 의: 정당화 되어지다. (9:1-11:36)
2부 (9:6-13)
하나님의 선택과 약속의 자녀들 (9:6-13)
가. 바울은 동료 유대인에 관해 계속하여 이야기 하고 있다. 야곱(이스라엘)의 육체적인 자손들 모두가 참 이스라엘인 것은 아니다. 되려, 나사렛 예수님을 메시야로 믿는 유대인들만이 참 이스라엘이다.
나. 아브라함의 모든 육체적 자손들이 그의 후손인 것은 아니다. 오직 약속으로 태어난 자손만이 그의 후손이다.
다. 하나님은 아브라함과 이삭에게 약속하셨지, 육체의 자손인 이스마엘과 나바욧에게 약속하신 게 아니다 (창세기 25:13). 따라서 창세기 21:12절에 나오는 약속은 이삭을 통하여서만이, (하나님께서) 육체적 이스라엘이라는 야곱의 후손들이 만드는 민족을 이룬다는 뜻이다.
라. 하지만 아브라함의 후손, 이삭의 자녀들 중에 장자 에서가 아니라, 야곱이 하나님의 선택을 받아, 그를 통해 장차 하나의 민족이 만들어 지며, 그들이 참 이스라엘이 되는 복을 받는다 하셨다. 사람의 노력이나, 행위들로 이루어 지지 않고, 하나님의 절대적인 선택하시는 사랑에 따른 것이다.
마. 이제 사도 바울은 먼저 다루었던 육체적 이스라엘이 하나님에게서 분리된 점을 다시 다루려 한다. 로마에 있는 유대인 그리스도인들에게 그는 이 문제를 어떻게 무엇이라 설명할 것인가? 야곱 (이스라엘)의 모든 육체적 자녀들이, 하나님의 자녀들, 즉 참 이스라엘인 것은 아니다. 오직 그 가운데 하나님께서 택하신 사람들만이 하나님의 자녀들이라고 불린다. 따라서, 하나님의 선택하신 사랑을 받아, 나사렛 예수님을 메시야로 믿은 유대인들만이 하나님의 자녀들이요, 참 이스라엘이라 하겠다.
바. 야곱을 사랑하고, 에서를 미워했던 하나님의 선택하신 목적이 모든 인류들에게도 마땅히 적용될 것이다. 장자인 에서를 제치고 야곱을 택하셨던 하나님의 사랑에서 절대적인 하나님의 주권을 보며, 에서의 경우가 이를 잘 입증한다. 따라서, 참 이스라엘을 향하신 하나님의 약속은 여전히 변하지 않고, 유효하다.
사. 요약하자면, 야곱의 모든 육체적 자손들이 모두 참 이스라엘은 아니다. 마찬가지로, 아브라함의 모든 자손들이 모두 아브라함의 씨 또한 아니다. 오직 이삭을 통한 약속의 자손들만이 아브라함의 씨요, 하나님의 자녀들이다. 그들이 태어나기도 전에, 야곱은 사랑을 받았고, 에서는 하나님께서 미워하셨다. 게다가 야곱의 모든 자손들이 참 이스라엘은 아니다.
자. 오직 하나님꼐서 선택하시고, 나사렛 예수님을 메시야로 믿게 된 (야곱의 자손, 즉) 유대인들만이 하나님의 자녀들이요, 참 이스라엘이다. 여기서, 바울은 참 이스라엘이야말로, 하나님의 자녀들이라 부른 것이다.

3. God’s Righteousness Is Through Faith: Vindicated (9:1-11:36)
Part 2 (9:6-13)
God’s Election and the Children of Promise (9: 6-13)
a. Not all those who are physical descendants of Jacob (Israel) are true Israel. Rather, the believing Jews who believe in Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah are true Israel.
b. Not all those who are physical descendants of Abraham are his offspring, his children, true Israel. Only those who are children of the promise are his offspring.
c. The promise of God started with Abraham through Isaac, not Ishmael to Nebajoth (Genesis 25:13), the children of the flesh. Therefore, the promise in Genesis 21:12 runs through Isaac and through him God makes a nation, physical descendants of Israel.
d. Yet among children of Isaac (children of Abraham’s offspring), not Esau, but Jacob was chosen by God to receive God’s blessing as a nation of Israel in the future. Not all the physical descendants of Jacob are true Israel. It is absolutely of God’s electing love, not of human effort or works.
e. Now, the Apostle Paul returns to his initial concern that the physical children of Israel are separated from God. How and what can it be explained to the believing Jews in Roman church? Not all the Children of Jacob (Israel) are true Israel, the children of God. Only God’s chosen ones are called the children of God. Therefore, currently only chosen Jews by God’s electing love who believe in Jesus of Nazareth as their Messiah are the children of God and true Israel.
f. God’s purpose of election must continue throughout all human history as was with God’s loving Jacob and hating Esau. God’s absolute sovereignty in His electing love on Jacob over against the first-born son, Esau proves it. Therefore, God’s promise to true Israel still stands unchanged and firm.
g. In summary, not all Israel’s descendants are true Israel. Not all Abraham’s children are Abraham’s offspring. Only children of promise through Isaac are his offspring, children of God. Jacob was loved and Esau was hated by God in His election prior to their birth. Not all the descendants of Jacob (Israel) are true Israel.
h. Only those who are chosen by God and believe in Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah are true Israel and the children of God. Here Paul says the true Israel is the children of God.
Study Question: Is there any difference between the Jews and the gentiles in terms of God’s electing love and bestowing a saving faith?
