(The Heidelberg Catechism)
<제 1 부>
(LORD’s Day 4)

Question 10. Will God allow such disobedience and apostasy to go unpunished?
Answer: Certainly not. He is terribly displeased with our original sin as well as our actual sins. Therefore he will punish them by a just judgment both now and eternally,(1) as he has declared:(2) Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law (Gal 3:10).

(1. God is righteous, therefore He cannot overlook our sins. As the righteous Judge, God judges the evil and condemns it as “sin”, He sentences its punishment according to His own Law. Thus, God does hate sin, and punishes for the sin.
2. We are human, so when we are angry we become unrighteous, but God is not so. Unlike us, God punishes for the sin by His just Law, yet His holy anger is perfectly righteous and just against the sin.
3. God’s anger against a specific sin has its unique intensity depending on how much wicked the sin is, Matthew 11:20-24.
4. We have two kinds of sins: Original Sin and the Active/Presumptuous Sin.
5. Punishments for sins naturally follow the law of sins. It means that in our lifetime, our sins will cause us their respective deserved pains as their punishments. After our death, we must suffer the eternal punishments for our sins committed in our lifetime.
6. For those who love, such promise was given as follows in 1 Corinthians 2:9-10:
“9but just as it is written,
‘THINGS WHICH EYE HAS NOT SEEN AND EAR HAS NOT HEARD,
AND which HAVE NOT ENTERED THE HEART OF MAN,
ALL THAT GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM.’
10 [a]For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.”
But for those who hate God will face the inevitable eternal punishments in proportion to what the Holy Spirit has given God’s gifts to those who love God, 2 Thessalonians 1:9,
“9 These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,”
Therefore, God’s covenantal curse will meet the sinners for their sins. Curse as God’s punishment is the price for their sin.
In the end, they will leave from the presence of God and will be abandoned to face their eternal misery in the darkness)
