(1. The saints are believers. They belong to their head, Jesus Christ. Therefore, they have a living communion with their head, Jesus Christ in common. Upon such a foundational communion, they also share all treasures of Jesus Christ, like salvation, justification, sanctification, redemption, eternal life, etc. Such treasures are necessary for the salvation of the saints.
- When the Spirit of Jesus Christ bestows His special gifts upon every member of His body, they are given for the salvation of the whole church, that is, for the gathering of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the building up of the whole church. Thus, each member must devote his gifts solely to the glory of Jesus, the head, and to the salvation of the whole church, the saints.
- Why are we called “saints”? We are saints, because our head, Jesus imputed His own righteousness to us. Yes, we of ourselves are sinful. Also we have begun to conform to the Law of God when His righteousness is imputed to us, so are called saints. Finally, we are saints, because we are separated from the unbelieving world truly to know God through Jesus in our worship by devoting our lives to our Savior, Jesus Christ and His glory.)
