92문) 하나님의 율법은 무엇인가요?
답) 하나님께서 이 모든 말씀을 일러 가라사대,
나는 너를 애굽땅 종되었던 집에서 인도하여 낸 너의 하나님 여호와로라.
1. 너는 나 외에는 다른 신들을 네게 있게 말지니라.
2. 너를 위하여 새긴 우상을 만들지 말고 또 위로 하늘에 있는 것이나 아래로 땅에 있는 것이나 땅 아래 물 속에 있는 것의 아무 형상이든지 아무 형상이든지 만들지 말며- 그것들에게 절하지 말며 그것들을 섬기지 말라. 나 네 하나님 여호와는 질투하는 하나님인즉 나를 미워하는 자의 죄를 갚되 아버지로부터 아들에게로 삼사 대까지 이르게 하거니와 나를 사랑하고 내 계명을 지키는 자에게는 천대 까지 은혜를 베푸느니라.
3. 너는 너의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 망령되이 일컫지 말라. 나 여호와는 나의 이름을 망령되이 일컫는 자를 죄 없다 하지 아니하리라.
4. 안식일을 기억하여 거룩히 지키라 엿새 동안은 힘써 네 모든 일을 행할 것이나 제 칠일은 너의 하나님 여호와의 안식일인즉 너나 네 아들이나 네 딸이 나 네 남종이나 네 여종이나 네 육축이나 네 성문안에 유하는 (이방인)나그네라도 아무 일도 하지 말라. 이는 엿새 동안에 나 여호와가 하늘과 땅과 바다와 그 가운데 모든 것을 만들고 제 칠일에 쉬었음이라. 그러므로 나 여호와가 안식일을 복되게 하여 그날을 거룩하게 하였느니라.
5. 네 부모를 공경하라. 그리하면 너의 하나님 나 여호와가 네게 준 땅에서 네 생명이 길리라.

| Question 92. What is the law of the LORD?

1. 이미 제 3-5문답에서 우리는 하나님의 율법을 공부했다. 거기서 율법은 우리를 정죄하였고, 그 결과 우리에게 구원을 주려고 우리를 그리스도께로 인도하였다. 이제는 그리스도께서 우리를 이 율법에로 이끄신다. 율법에서 우리를 죄에서 건지시려 우리의 죄값을 대신 치르시는 일을 하신 그분께 어떻게 그리스도인으로서, 새로운 순종의 삶을 살면서 감사하는 자세를 가져야 할 지를 배워야 하기 때문이다. 문답 86-91이 우리에게 참된 선행들이 무엇인 지를 가르치고 나서, 이 율법이 등장한다. 왜 그럴까? 이 “열 가지 말씀”만이 우리가 반드시 해야 할 선한 행실들의 잣대가 되기 때문이다. 따라서, 문답92-115에서 우리는 하나님의 율법과 우리 그리스도인들이 감사하는 자세로 선한 행실들을 하는 삶에 대해 배우게 된다. 우리를 창조하셨을 당시, 모든 사람들의 마음에 하나님의 도덕법이 새겨져 있었다. 하지만, 시내산에서 처음으로 이 율법이 구체적으로 명문화 되고, 우리에게 밝혀 졌다. 이 율법은 모든 인류를 향하신 하나님의 절대적인 도덕법이다. 1. 율법은 불변하시는 하나님의 계시된 뜻이다. 2. 율법은 모든 인류에게 적용되는 하나님의 도덕법이다. 3. 율법은 성경에서 제시하는 많은 사회법과 도덕법들의 기본 토대이다. 4. 율법은 부정적인 면과 긍정적인 면에서 어떻게 실천되어야 할 지를 우리에게 가르친다.
(We have encountered with the Law of God before in Q & A 3-5. At that time, the Law condemned and drove us to Christ for our redemption from sin. Now once again Christ leads us to the Law that we may live a life of Christian obedience and thankfulness to Him for His redemptive work for us. Questions 86-91 are all about the biblical doctrine of good works. Then why do we face the Ten Words here right after discussing about the good works? Because the Decalogue are the standard by which we must do our good works. Therefore, in Qs 92-115, we will study “the Law and our Christian Gratitude to God.” Even if God’s Moral Law was engraved in the hearts of human race in the beginning at the creation, on Mt. Sinai for the first time God revealed His Law for the whole human race in detail by the Decalogue. 1. They are clearly revealed and unchangeable will of God. 2. They are the Moral Law of God for all human race. 3. They are the basic principles of all morality taught in the Bible. 4. They are both negative and positive aspects in their respective applications.)

여기서 우리는 율법이 두 부분으로 나뉘어 졌음을 보게 된다. 첫 번째는 우리가 가질 하나님께 대한 의무들이다. 두 번째에서는 우리가 우리 이웃에게 진 빚들을 어떻게 갚아야 하는 지를 밝히고 있다. 첫 번째에서 네 번째 계명까지가 하나님께 대한 부분이요, 다섯 번째 부터 열 번째 계명들은 우리 이웃에 대한 것들이다. 그리스도께서 우리에게 이 율법을 요약하여 주셨다; “이 두 계명들에 온 율법과 선지자들의 중점이 담겨있다” (마태복음 22:40). 따라서, 이 율법은 성경 전체가 가르치는 모든 도덕법의 기본 토대이다. 로마교회와 루터교는 첫 번째 계명을 두 번째와 묶어서 첫 번째 계명이라고 가르친다. 이러면, 로마교회가 종교예식에서 자행하고 있는, 우상숭배가 죄로 인정되지 않는다. 즉, 다른 신들을 섬기는 데 우상숭배 수단과 방법을 쓰지 말라고 해석하여, 하나님 숭배의 도구와 수단으로 우상들을 쓰는 데는 문제가 없게 되기 때문이다. 그리고 열 개의 계명들을 만들기 위해, 열 번째 계명을 둘로 나누어, 아홉 번째와 (집에 대한 탐심) 열 번째 계명으로 (아내와 나머지 것들에 대한 탐심) 나누어 버린다. “나는 너를 애굽땅, 종 되었던 집에서 인도하여 낸 너희 하나님 야훼로라”라는 서문은 우리에게 야훼 하나님의 속성을 가르친다: 1.우리 하나님 야훼께서는 절대주권적으로 전능하시다; 2. 야훼께서는 우리의 자비롭고 은혜로우신 우리의 구원자요, 구속주이시다.
(Here we see the divisions of the Decalogue, the first division is about our duties to our God, YAHWEH. The second one is about our duties, how to pay our debts towards our neighbors. The first four commandments belong to the first division. The fifth through the tenth commandments belong to the second one. As we know, Jesus Christ sums up the Decalogue in two commandments that ends with “On these two Commandments hang all the law and the prophets” in Matthew 22:40. Therefore, the Decalogue is the basis for all Biblical morality. The Roman church and the Lutheran church follow their old tradition, that is, the first command comprises of the first and the second commandments. And then, the tenth commandment is divided into the ninth and the tenth commandments making the total 10 commandments in the end. The advantage of doing so is to justify image worship of the Roman church in their legitimatizing idolatrous ceremonial practices. “I am the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery” is the preface to the Decalogue. This preface teaches us about what YAHWEH is to us: 1. our God YAHWEH is sovereign; 2. And He is our gracious Savior/Redeemer.)
Roman Church and Lutheran Church’s List of the Ten Commandments:
1.You shall have no other gods.
2.You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.
3.Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
4.Honor your father and mother.
5.You shall not murder.
6.You shall not commit adultery.
7.You shall not steal.
8.You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
9.You shall not covet your neighbor’s house.
10.You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor. [The words “wife” and “house” may be reversed in different traditions.]
St. Augustine, who is considered one of the greatest theologians in Christian history, began the tradition of numbering the commandments in the way familiar to Lutherans and Roman Catholics. It is a result of his influence that the Roman Catholic Church numbers the commandments as they do. Martin Luther began his theological studies as a Catholic monk, and was familiar with the writings of St. Augustine. Since he saw no deficiencies with that numbering of the commandments, Lutherans continued to number them in the same way as Roman Catholics, even after they became separate churches.
The numbering system used by most Protestants and the Eastern Orthodox comes from another ancient Christian teacher named Origin. All Christians, regardless of which numbering system they use, acknowledge that all the words of Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5 are God’s commands. Lutherans and Catholics still believe that God commands humans not to make or worship idols, but they consider these words to be an explanation of the first commandment against having other gods rather than a separate commandment.
